I know it can be confusing with all the misleading information online. That is why I like to make things simpler.

Avoid Fruit if Your Goal Is Fat Loss

The simple answer is no. No fruit, even berries which are low in carbs should be eaten on a ketogenic diet.

If your goal is fat loss I recommend you remove all fruit from your diet until you meet your fat loss goal.

This is because:

  • The net carbs in fruit will prevent you from getting into ketosis.

  • Even low-carb fruits can stall fat loss as they are very easy to overeat.

The goal of a keto diet is to get into ketosis which reduces your appetite and helps you eat less. Fruits can kick you out of ketosis. So they are best avoided if your goal is fat loss.

There are some exceptions to this. Avocados, lemons, and limes are fruits that won’t stop you from losing fat on a keto diet as they are very low in net carbs.
